Six Word Saturday

Bitter cold. Need Heat. Been slacking!!
It's been so cold in my apartment that it has been hard for me to function. Forget taking pictures, watching anime for reviews or exercising sleeping is the only thing that feels right in this cold. Getting out of bed has been a real struggle. Since the apartment heat is managed by the landlord there isn't much I can do except use my room heater wherever I go.

New Study says 'People Who Enjoy Life Maintain Better Physical Function as They Age'

A couple of days ago, I spoke to my grandmother. We caught up on how she and other family members were doing. We then moved on how important it is for her to still enjoy life.  She told me to keep taking care of my health so I can enjoy it later. Of course I am taking her advice,  after all who doesn't want to be happy in an able body when they are older? I'm curious to see what she says about this article. Great conversation piece next time I talk to her.

People who enjoy life maintain better physical function in daily activities and keep up faster walking speeds as they age, compared with people who enjoy life less, according to a new study in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal).
A study of 3199 men and women aged 60 years or over living in England looked at the link between positive well-being and physical well-being, following participants over 8 years. Participants were divided into three age categories: 60-69, 70-79 and 80 years or over. Researchers from University College London (UCL), United Kingdom, assessed participants' enjoyment of life with a four-point scale, rating the following questions: "I enjoy the things that I do," "I enjoy being in the company of others," "On balance, I look back on my life with a sense of happiness" and "I feel full of energy these days." Researchers used personal interviews to determine whether participants had impairments in daily activities such as getting out of bed, getting dressed, bathing or showering. They gauged walking speed with a gait test.
"The study shows that older people who are happier and enjoy life more show slower declines in physical function as they age," states Dr. Andrew Steptoe, UCL. "They are less likely to develop impairments in activities of daily living such as dressing or getting in or out of bed, and their walking speed declines at a slower rate than those who enjoy life less."

Time to Workout - Quote - Plyojam Dance/Sexy Butt Workout Video

I had a great week of exercising. I had to take the weekend off because I was out of town. There wasn't a way to me to workout since I was helping work on a car the whole two days. When I got home I was just spent.  I really do not like cold weather especially when I have to be in it. I was mentally drained and physically exhausted since I was out in the cold for most of the two days.
I have noticed that ever since I have been keeping a journal of what I have ate and what I did to workout for the day it has motivated me to workout more frequently and intensely. If I know I might not have time the next day I will workout more intensely the current day. So I'm going to keep my journal up since it is helping me.

  • Space.
This video was great. I had a lot of fun doing it. Just like I used last week's time to workout during my routines. I know I will be using this one this week especially since it targets the glutes!!!

If you are like me, you need constant motivation. Sometimes I feel like blogging other days I just rather pass, same for exercise. I usually don't have an excuse for myself other than I'm just not feeling it. Sometimes quotes help me. Sometimes reading articles that remind me of the areas I want to target help my motivation. Regardless how I got motivated before I always feel better after my workout.

5 foods That Are Wreaking Havoc on Your Looks

5 Processed Foods That Are Messing with Your Looks

From dailymakeover.com:
1. Soda
Talk about empty calories. Processed foods not only strip your body of the good nutrients it needs to grow beautiful hair and have glowing skin, but they eat into your daily caloric intake. Sodas (and anything with caffeine) cause dehydration, which will make your skin look more dry and wrinkled.  Plump up with water instead.
2. Bad fats
You need the healthy fats for beautiful skin and hair like olive oil and coconut oil. Stay away from the bad fats—corn, soybean and palm oil—that are void of nutrients.
3. Anything with high-fructose corn syrup
Read those labels, ladies! High-Fructose Corn Syrup is in everything—and it should be avoided at all costs. This substance increases triglycerides, boosts fat-storing hormones, and drives people to overeat and gain weight. Adopt a zero-tolerance policy and steer clear of this sweet “poison,” as Avanti calls it.
4. Simple carbs
Sugar, white flour and white rice are simple carbs that are stripped of vitamins and fiber. Eating too many of these non-complex carbs can cause insulin levels to spike, which leads to inflammation.  Inflammation produces enzymes that break down collagen and elastin, resulting in sagging skin and wrinkles. Sugar also raises the blood sugar, which creates a spike in insulin, your blood sugar hormone, which can lead to breakouts.
5. Processed meat
While lunch meat and hot dogs do not contain sugar, they are loaded with preservatives that you don’t want to put in your body, namely sodium and nitrates. Salt in processed foods can wreak havoc on skin because it causes you to retain water, which means swelling, as well as dehydration, which means wrinkles. If you buy processed foods like canned veggies, buy no-salt-added varieties and check the sugar content.
